Scopes

A game of Dark Realms has different scopes of play

Adventure

The largest scope of the game is the adventure. The goal is to be able to start several adventures and build upon your character, or create new characters. An adventure is an overarching story that sets the scene for your gameplay and your end goal.

Scenario

In order to achieve the adventure goal, the game takes you through several scenarios, both ready-made and randomly generated scenarios that fit the story arc.

Rounds

Each scenario is divided into rounds, there are key events that take place in the beginning and end of each round, and a round ends when all active figures have acted.

Turn

A turn is the actions a single figure, either a Hero, Enemy, Ally or other take in the round. Each figure is assigned a starting order, or "speed", when they are selecting their actions, which determines in what order each figure acts. Each Hero figure have a fixed amount of stamina, this can be spent on their available actions that are described on the cards on their hand. Each card has a value that both sets the speed for your character and how much stamina it costs to use it. The more stamina you spend, the quicker you get and the faster you act in the round. Enemies have their speed designated on their cards as well, which is selected from a shuffled deck per enemy type.
